Thai Social Security for Foreigners: The Best Deal You're Not Using
If you hold a Thai work permit, you're automatically in the system โ capped at 750 THB/month for hospital access, unemployment protection and pension credits. Most foreigners never learn what they're entitled to.
The contribution math
- 5% of registered salary, capped at 15,000 THB wage base = maximum 750 THB/month from you
- Employer matches another 750 THB
- Nationality is irrelevant โ Non-B + work permit puts you in exactly like Thai colleagues (Section 33)
- โ ๏ธ Ceiling rising in phases from January 2026: to 17,500 THB base (~875 THB max) through 2028, then higher
What it covers

The honest comparison vs private insurance
SSO healthcare is outstanding value but Thailand-only, single registered hospital, basic amenities. The common expat setup: SSO as the floor + private/nomad insurance for choice and international coverage. Even stacked, this often beats full private cover alone. See insurance options compared โ
